why a 110 km trail in 2 stages?

After ten or so editions of the Lozère Trail, with its 25km and 45km routes around Chanac, the Salta Bartas had the idea of taking the event beyond the 100km mark and into the Gorges du Tarn, where they often go on Sunday outings.

But they thought it would be a shame to spend part of the race without seeing the magnificent wild landscapes of these gorges, as well as the Causse Sauveterre and Causse Méjean, not forgetting the finish in the Lot Valley at Chanac. It was therefore obvious to offer a two-day race, during which you can savour every minute of the authentic and unspoilt landscapes, with a friendly bivouac that brings runners together in the Lozère Trail spirit of sharing.

The Ultra Lozère, 110 km in 2 days, was born. All that remained was to choose two routes covering the most beautiful paths in the region!

Sharing the Lozère ultra experience: the DUO race

As we said, sharing and conviviality are at the heart of the Lozère Trail organisers' spirit, born of their desire to share their territory with you.

If you're looking for an extraordinary experience to share as a couple or with friends, take part in the Lozère Trail en duo! The principle is simple: you register under the same number, you set off together, you run the race together and you cross the finish line together. Two days of running, sharing the pleasures and fullness of the great outdoors, and supporting each other through the difficulties of the course.
We thought about going so far as to tie your ankles together, but we didn't overdo it.

Please note: The duo race is run from start to finish. If one of the team-mates drops out, the other automatically drops out. At Lozère Trail, solidarity counts.

Course description

The routes are subject to change so that you can enjoy them even more, in complete safety.

Saturday: a 55 km technical loop in the Gorges du Tarn

56km - 3200 m ascent

The route on the first day of the Ultra Lozère forms a loop, starting on the Causse Sauveterre, on the right bank of the Tarn, before crossing the Tarn shortly after the halfway point for two fine climbs on the Causse Méjean. Rocky paths, cliff edges, crossings of wild meadows, all with a formidable succession of climbs and descents that will not leave your legs indifferent.

Feed stations

  • Prades (km 18)
  • Blajoux (km 27.7), time barrier 1.00pm
  • Castelbouc (km 43), time barrier 4.30pm
  • Finish (km 56)

All the refreshment points are accessible, as they are located in the villages along the D907bis (towards Florac). However, it is difficult to reach the refreshment points by car, and there is no parking close to them.

The joy of bivouacking

At the finish, after a hearty refreshment, you can dip your legs in the Tarn to soothe them after a day spent frolicking happily around the river. You'll have earned it.

Minibuses make frequent round trips to take runners to the bivouac organised by Lozère Trail, at the Centre d'Activités de Pleine Nature de Sainte Enimie.

There, 8-bed marabouts with camp beds await you, so all you need to bring is a sleeping bag. There's also a hammam-jacuzzi area, a team of physiotherapists, and a good meal lovingly prepared to help you recover and regain your strength for the next day! It's also a great opportunity to run again!

Sunday: A beautiful 55km route between the Tarn and the Lot, via the Causse plateau

54 km -2400 m ascent

Your day begins on the banks of the Tarn and Causse Méjean. Once you've left the Gorges at the Cabrunas feed station (you'll remember this climb for a long time), you can cross the Causse Sauveterre to Chanac. Don't be fooled, just because there are no more big bumps doesn't mean the route is easy. The Causse is full of surprises.

Refreshment points

  • Anilhac (km 13) difficult to get to by car!
  • Cabrunas (km 24), the best viewpoint of the weekend! Time barrier 12.00 noon
  • Champerboux (km 36) - time barrier 15:00
  • Finish (km 52)
